New LG phone with 6-inch QHD display coming soon

“LG will be showcasing the new 6″ Quad HD screen at the SID 2014 expo in San Francisco.”
There is absolutely no point to go beyond 1080p on 5.5 inch or lesser phones. There is not much difference between 2k and 1080p in screens that are smaller than 7″.

What is the point in having such a high a high resolution display at that screen size other than to kill battery life.
